Established in 1728, Caroline County’s seat is Bowling Green and is known for its historic areas such as Port Royal. The county sits on 537 square miles of land in addition to about nine square miles of water. Its water comes from its northern boundary of the Rappahannock River. The river helps the soil and the agriculture in the area providing a great base for the slightly acidic soil composition.
